If you want to save lives, you adopt the No Kill Equation. If you want to legally kill animals faster, you stay open 4 hours on a Saturday.

One change since the Stockton Police Department investigation of animal services, and it is a typically sleazy one: Animal Services is now open 12-4 on Saturdays, where it used to be open 12-3. At first glance, you might think this is a good thing. It’ll give more animals a chance to be adopted, right? Not if you don’t promote adoptions. The main thing that staying open that extra hour does is to let Stockton Animal Services count Saturday as a business day, and by making Saturday a business day, they can shorten the hold time for every animal by a full business day.

Stockton Animal Services is deeply committed to being a high kill pound. This change makes it a leaner, meaner, more efficient killing machine. By paying staff one extra hour on a Saturday, Stockton can legally kill every animal one day sooner.

Stocktonites, San Joaquin County residents–this is your animal services agency, your animal services director, your Police Department, and YOUR elected officials. The election is November 6.

It’s YOUR democracy.  Here are the candidates.

Make your vote count.

Some of the few possible pit bull mixes available for adoption at Stockton Animal Services. Most, if they are given hold times, are held behind a locked steel door during their hold time and then killed as soon as the hold is up–which will now be one day sooner.

It absolutely INFURIATES me that Pitbulls are given an even less of an opportunity to be saved than the other poor dogs at Stockton Animal Services, which, as we know, are given very little opportunity at all.
    😦

  2. Somehow you think that Saturday was not counted as a business day in the past….It always has been counted as a business day…If the shelter was open, it was a business day..So this extra hour open for the public does not change any stray hold time frame. It is not shortened..what made you think that?

    • If Saturday was counted as a business day in the past, it was counted illegally. A shelter has to be open 4 hours on a Saturday for it to count–legally–as a business day. This extra hour the shelter is open is a sleazy way to legally kill more animals faster. Your ignorance of the law does not make your fantastical pro-kill comments correct.
